POSITION: PSYCHOEDUCATOR
DEPARTMENT: COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES - SCHOOL OPERATIONS

FUNCTION & DUTIES:
Under the supervision of Assistant Director of Complementary Services, the psychoeducator will work in close collaboration with the complementary services team, the local Inuit special education technicians, the behavior technicians and other members of the staff in order to address behavioral problems in a comprehensive and coordinated manner,and facilitate school environment conducive to learning.

Evaluate behavior of students referred by school staff as having problems in the socioaffective domain;
Participate in team meetings to determine the necessary measures in order to help these identified students;
Work with groups of students who demonstrate similar problems in order to teach anger management, conflict resolution as well as appropriate behavior;
Meet with specifically identified students on a regular one to one basis;
Prepare material and activities required to identify and work with students with serious behavior problems;
Work with parents and school professionals;
Provide workshops and tools for behavior technicians;
Must travel to communities frequently.

QUALIFICATIONS:
University diploma in psychoeducation
Member of “l’Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec”

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must have a good working knowledge of French and English
At least three years of experience in working with troubled children including creation of Individual Education Plans (IEP)
Northern and/or cross-cultural experience an asset

LOCATION: Kuujjuaq (Ungava Bay)

STATUS: Temporary (supenumerary)

DURATION: September 2012 to June 2013

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:
Psychoeducator / from $39,438 to $72,608 depending on qualifications and experience/
Salary & benefits as per the Non-Teaching Professional Collective Agreement of the Board.
