The Kativik School Board provides education to the Inuit of Nunavik.  Its facilities are located in the 14 communities on the Hudson and Ungava Bay coasts.  Its administrative centre, presently located in Montréal, will ultimately be relocated in Nunavik.

The Special Education Teacher works under the supervision of Assistant Director of Complementary Services and is responsible for teaching all education subjects, from primary to secondary V, to students between the ages of 14 – 19 years old, while also developing individual plan for students enrolled in the rehabilitation center.

FUNCTION & DUTIES:
Conduct assessments of student levels of learning based on Kativik School Board benchmarks.
Develop individualized learning plans that follow the Kativik School Board curriculum, utilizing individual tutoring when students demonstrate specific learning disabilities.
Perform on-going progress monitoring, including submitting monthly reports for each student to the Center Director and Assistant Director of Complementary Services when requested.
Develop and supervise extracurricular activities that emphasize teamwork and social interactions.
Perform any other relevant tasks which may normally be assigned to teaching personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must hold a "Brevet d'enseignement" or a teaching permit from the province of Quebec or from a Canadian province.
Relevant experiences working with youth who present challenging behaviors due to traumatic experiences.
Experiences assessing students for learning difficulties and developing individualized interventions and/or learning programs.
Ability to provide counselling when students demonstrate anger, stress or anxiety.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
Fluency in two of the three official languages of the board (French, English, Inuktitut).
Good communication and collaborations skills.
Maturity, ability to work independently.
Able to work within a multidisciplinary team.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:
Salary & benefits in accordance with the AENQ collective agreement for teachers / from $39,291 to $76,486$ depending on qualification and experience.
