A group of 25\u00a0students from Iguarsivik School have not only won an Initiative Prize, one of the Essor Recognition Awards categories, but their artworks are also on exhibit at Quebec City\u2019s <em>Mus\u00e9e national des beaux-arts du Qu\u00e9bec <\/em>(MNBAQ) until June\u00a02, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>We met with a few of the key players in this project in order to tell you about it. Let us introduce the teacher who coordinated the project.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;white&#8221; style=&#8221;dashed&#8221; border_width=&#8221;4&#8243; el_width=&#8221;60&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;10\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]Every student at Iguarsivik School in Puvirnituq (Nunavik), from Grade\u00a05 to Secondary\u00a05, goes through art teacher Nathalie Claude\u2019s classroom. This is the place where the work entitled <em>Tarratuutiq | Taima<\/em> came together over a period of one year, with students pursuing their artistic explorations under the teacher\u2019s guidance.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, coming from a career in art instruction in Canada and the experience of creating playful projects for public spaces in Montreal, Haiti, Morocco and Nicaragua, Nathalie landed in Puvirnituq. Her mandate here was to teach art to students between the ages of 10 and 17 &#8211; students for whom English and French would be a second or even a third language. When the MNBAQ began its search for Nunavik teachers who would be interested in a project based on the works in its collection, her response was immediate.<\/p>\n<p>From her first arrival in Nunavik, Nathalie had been struck by the beauty of the Arctic. And also by the open-air dump near the village, from which smoke billowed out whenever waste was being burned.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"module-testimonial \">\n    <div class=\"row justify-content-center\">\n                    <div class=\"col-12 col-xxl-7 col-testi\">\n                <div class=\"titleTesti-box\">\n                                                        <\/div>\n                                    <div class=\"image-box-mobile\">\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kativik.qc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/nathalie-testimonial-3-1-1000x1000.png\" class=\"img-fluid\" alt=\"\">\n                    <\/div>\n                                <div class=\"testimonial-content-box\"  data-aos=\"fade\" data-aos-delay=\"500\">\n                    <div class=\"testi-color-bg-box color-bleu\">\n                        <div class=\"deco-left\"><\/div>\n                        <blockquote><p>I was fascinated by all this immensity, by the beauty of the land and its purity\u2026 And at the same time, here was this shocking contrast with the open-air garbage dump on the outskirts of the village belching out its noxious fumes over the inhabitants. I asked my students about it; I wanted to know what they thought.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n                    <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"testimonial-bottom-box\">\n                                                \n                            <div class=\"testimonial-signature-box\" data-aos=\"fade\" data-aos-delay=\"500\">\n                                                                    <span class=\"nom-personne\">Nathalie Claude<\/span>                                     <span class=\"poste\"> Teacher (2022) and pedagogical counsellor since 2023<\/span>                            <\/div>\n                                            <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"col-8 col-5xl-4 col-lg-5 d-flex align-items-center\">\n\n                                    <div class=\"image-box\" data-aos=\"fade-right\" data-aos-delay=\"100\">\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kativik.qc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/nathalie-testimonial-3-1-1000x1000.png\" class=\"img-fluid\" alt=\"\">\n                    <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;10\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]And so began the creative process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy work is really to accompany the students and provide a climate of trust for them, one in which they can feel comfortable exploring various media in order to express themselves in ways other than through language,\u201d says Nathalie. \u201cYou have to take pleasure in the experience of creating, and laughter is so important!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The artistic calibre of the students\u2019 creations is impressive.
