This Grade 3 Inuktitut teacher goes above and beyond to create the most welcoming and culturally relevant class for her students.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;white&#8221; style=&#8221;dashed&#8221; border_width=&#8221;4&#8243; el_width=&#8221;60&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;10\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]We met Eva in 2023 in Tasiujaq as another busy week at school was ending. Like, my friends, they used to play as my students. I always wanted to be a teacher. There\u2019s even a <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki\">tupiq<\/a> in the classroom!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s sometimes hard to motivate students to read a book. Because nobody wants to read when they\u2019re young. Hahaha! I made it to create a quiet place, for them to read more. I mean, not just to read. If they wanna work in a quiet place, they go there.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;10\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]She even requested the culture teacher to build a <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki\">qamutiik<\/a> for her class, to use as a bench and a book holder, thus adding new cultural elements to the learning context.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, all these elements are more than mere decorations for Eva. They are like a \u201csecond teacher\u201d that supports students&#8217; learning and sense of belonging.
