[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/12″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”10\/12″][vc_column_text css=””]In June 2025, Kativik Ilisarniliriniq proudly approved its new five-year strategic plan,\u00a0Sivumuattiit\u2013Going Forward Together<\/strong>, marking a major milestone in the organization\u2019s journey toward strengthening student success across Nunavik. This plan is the result of a deeply collaborative and inclusive process. It engaged nearly 1,000 voices from across the region, including staff, students, commissioners, and community members.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”white” style=”dashed” border_width=”4″ el_width=”60″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/12″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/12″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”10\/12″][vc_column_text css=””]The name\u00a0Sivumuattiit<\/em>, meaning \u201cpeople moving forward together,\u201d reflects the spirit of unity and shared purpose that guided the strategic planning process. Over the course of a year, consultations were held in schools, centres, and communities, with participants contributing their insights, hopes, and priorities. From Kuujjuaq to Ivujivik and all Nunavik villages, the process was designed to be participatory and empowering.<\/p>\n

Among the most inspiring outcomes of the consultations was the enthusiastic involvement of students, who expressed joy and gratitude during both in-community and multi-community activities. These events not only connected people across schools, but also reunited remote family members, creating meaningful moments that underscored the importance of education as a community-centred experience.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/12″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Seeing students light up during the multi-community activities was incredibly moving. Their joy, creativity, and gratitude reminded us why this work matters. When schools connect, families connect\u2014and that sense of belonging and pride in their culture is a powerful foundation for learning<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/div>\n

It also empowered participants and reinforced cultural awareness\u2014all key elements in shaping a strategic plan that truly reflects the values and aspirations of Nunavimmiut.<\/p>\n

While staff engagement was strong and sincere, the team noted that participation from community members at the four major events was limited. However, this was balanced by the fact that many of the staff members consulted are Nunavimmiut, and their perspectives reflect the communities they serve.<\/p>\n

The final strategic plan, approved by the Council of Commissioners, is structured around three guiding pillars:\u00a0Nuusuittuq<\/strong>,\u00a0Sivumut<\/strong>, and\u00a0Atii<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
