[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/12″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”10\/12″][vc_column_text]As the school year came to an end, it was time to gather and celebrate the hard work of the students graduating from their post\u2011secondary studies. The Public Relations team was invited to the Post\u2011secondary Student Services annual graduation lunch held on Wednesday, June 6, at the Holiday Inn Express Montreal Airport. The event was nothing short of inspiring. The afternoon was spent cheering for and celebrating the achievements of our sponsored students. We took the time to ask a few graduates and their parents about their experience, what they have learned, and their proudest moments. Join us in congratulating the graduating class of 2018\u2014they continue to inspire and pave the way for future generations!<\/p>\n

Name: Larry Elijasialuk Dow<\/strong><\/p>\n

Program: Accounting and management<\/strong><\/p>\n

College\/University: Montmorency College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public Relations (PR):\u00a0What was the most challenging obstacle you overcame?<\/em><\/p>\n

Larry Dow (LD): The most challenging obstacle for me during my studies was being away from home. The first month was the hardest.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0And how did you overcome it?<\/em><\/p>\n

LD: Knowing that I was doing something good and that I was learning a lot of new things.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Why did your program interest you?<\/em><\/p>\n

LD: I always liked working with numbers. I enjoy math and the challenges it brings, so I thought I\u2019d do my program in the same subject.<\/p>\n

PR: Can you talk about the support Post-Secondary Student Services offered during this time?<\/em><\/p>\n

LD:\u00a0 They helped me with being able to manage my time and with any homework I needed help completing.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0What would you tell another student thinking of pursing post\u2011secondary studies?<\/em><\/p>\n

LD: Go for it! It won\u2019t always be so hard; it gets better!<\/p>\n

Name: Beatrice Deer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Program: Publication, design, and hypermedia \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

College\/University: John Abbott College \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

PR: Tell us about how you got here.<\/em><\/p>\n

Beatrice Deer (BD): It was a long journey; I had gone home with only two\u00a0credits left to graduate. I took seven\u00a0years off before coming back. It was always something in the back of my mind. The goal was always to get a diploma.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Wow, a seven\u2011year break! Why was it important for you to come back after so many years?<\/em><\/p>\n

BD: I wanted to make my parents proud. I wanted my kids to see that, if I could do it, so could they!<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0What were some of the goals you had during your studies?<\/em><\/p>\n

BD: I had four goals I wanted to accomplish during my time in school.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Four goals\u2014that\u2019s incredible! Do you mind sharing them with us?<\/em><\/p>\n

BD: I don\u2019t mind at all. I wanted to go to college, for my kids to finish school (my daughter is graduating from high school this year), to get some therapy, and to pursue my music career. And I\u2019ve accomplished all of them!<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Congratulations on your amazing accomplishments.<\/em>\u00a0What surprised you the most about yourself?<\/em><\/p>\n

DB: My determination and drive.<\/p>\n

Name: Marina Annanack Chevrier<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parent of Angel Annanack-Lacasse<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had the pleasure of catching up with Mariana Chevrier, mother of Angel Lacasse. Angel graduated from the social science program at John Abbott College. She plans to continue her studies in the fall at Concordia University.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0As a mother, what does this moment mean to you?<\/em><\/p>\n

Mariana Annanack Chevrier (MAC): It\u2019s pretty overwhelming, but I\u2019m very proud of her. She can do anything.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0How did you feel when she told you that she was coming to study in the south?<\/em><\/p>\n

MAC: I was scared, and it broke my heart. But I knew she would be okay. She\u2019s always been strong.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Did you notice a change in her?<\/em><\/p>\n

MAC: Yes, she became more brave and now she\u2019s becoming an adult, and I\u2019m very proud of her.<\/p>\n

PR:\u00a0Any words of advice to other parents?<\/em><\/p>\n

MAC: It\u2019s important to let them go. We need leaders to replace us. To help bring structure to the community. And it starts with our kids.<\/p>\n
