As students, teachers, and staff return to our schools across Nunavik, we begin this school year with a renewed sense of purpose. Every September brings the same quiet energy: classrooms filling again, new faces joining our teams, and communities coming together to support our students.

This year, we were pleased to welcome a new group of teachers to Kativik Ilisarniliriniq. Our orientation weeks gave them a strong introduction to the region and to our schools, while allowing us to strengthen the bonds within our existing teams. Onboarding our new colleagues well, and making sure they feel supported from day one, remains one of our priorities.

I am also glad to share that our 2026–2027 budget has been approved by the Council of Commissioners. This gives us a clear foundation to move into the year with a strong sense of our priorities.

Across the organization, Sivumuattiit, our Strategic Plan, continues to guide the way we work. I am grateful and proud to see teams at every level, in our schools and in our administrative offices, working together toward our shared vision. Every role matters to that vision, from our teachers to our janitorial and secretarial staff, and I want every employee to know that their work is seen and valued.

Student success remains at the heart of everything we do. Our Strategic Plan gives us a sense of direction: it helps us stay aligned, keep our focus, and learn to prioritize, because we cannot do everything at once.

This has also been a year of change in governance, both among our own Commissioners and at the provincial level. We must stay attentive to this shifting political environment as we move forward. To set our next Council up for success, incoming members will take part in intensive training on governance, roles, responsibilities, and ethics, so they can step into the role well prepared. I encourage Nunavimmiut to consider running in the next Council of Commissioners elections. Our Commissioners play a key role in shaping the future of our school board, and we need dynamic, engaged people to help carry that vision forward.

Wishing you all a great start to the school year. Thank you for your continued dedication to the students of Nunavik.

Harriet Keleutak, Director General
