Training Description

From cars to planes and bridges to buildings: if it’s made of metal, it can be welded. If you are looking for a job that is high in demand, then welding is a career for you!

This course is intended for residents of each community visited.

This workshop serves as a welder’s basic training and covers the fundamentals of the trade. You’ll gain the knowledge required for initial employment in the welding industry.

This unique workshop is an opportunity to get a hands-on sense of what the welding industry has to offer. Skilled trades are always in demand, and welding is no exception. The welding industry is a diversified field. It provides many career opportunities.

Learning to weld can open many doors. It could also add to a trade you already master, thereby making you that much more valuable as an employee.

You will be able to work for companies specializing in repairs and maintenance, construction, manufacturing, mines, and mills, to name a few.

Training Content

Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll have gained a better understanding of the skills and techniques involved in different welding processes.

More specifically, you will learn to:

  • Prepare different surfaces
  • Safely handle welding equipment/tools
  • Understand the different welding processes
  • Weld with a variety of materials (steel, aluminium, etc.).
  • Repair heavy equipment typically used by the Northern Villages
  • Repair small vehicles
  • Create small accessories

Admission requirements

Candidates must meet certain criteria.

You must meet the following conditions:

  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Be a Nunavik resident
  • Be a resident of the community where the course is held (we do not cover travel expenses to neighbouring villages)
