FUNCTION & DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services and in collaboration with other administrators of the youth sector, the Coordinator is responsible for supporting the school administrative teams and the special education pedagogical counselors in organizing services for students at risk and with special needs. The work consists in assuming, within the incumbent’s field of competencies, a consulting role and providing functional expertise to the School Board’s managers in order to promote the optimal management of the Special Education Committee and services to students.
The Coordinator will also have the following responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Special Education Committee in schools in accordance with the Directive on the organization of services for students with handicaps, social maladjustments or learning difficulties (CS-01) with the collaboration of the special education pedagogical counselors;
- Coordinate all operations relating to the IEP procedure according to the School Board’s policy;
- Collaborate, as appropriate, with the school administrations, special education teachers, school interveners, and the special education pedagogical counselors on IEP development according to Complementary and Compassionate Services procedures for students at risk and with special needs;
- Keep up to date with the latest innovations relating to the creation of intervention plans (including TEVA), learning strategies (best practices), and technological tools and programs such as CASP for helping students with learning difficulties;
- Provide, with the support of the special education pedagogical counselors, learning and behavioural management strategies to equip special education teams in all schools;
- Collaborate with the Assistant Directors of Complementary and Compassionate Services to organize, prepare and support any training course offered by Complementary and Compassionate Services personnel (travel arrangements, accommodations, working claims, etc.);
- Collaborate with the special education pedagogical counselors in ensuring that the list of materials and equipment to be sent to the in-school teams is up to date.
- Liaise with external partners and other Kativik Ilisarniliriniq departments to coordinate the response to student needs;
- Ensure the yearly departmental planning is kept up to date in collaboration with the special education pedagogical counselors;
- Be responsible for special education referrals received from schools and ensure that timely follow-up and services are provided in collaboration with the Complementary and Compassionate Services team;
- Perform any other tasks delegated by the Director or the Assistant Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (adaptation scolaire et sociale) and/or relevant management experience in Special Education;
- Five (5) years of relevant experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Written and spoken fluency in two (2) of the School Board’s three (3) languages (Inuktitut, French and/or English);
- Available to travel frequently in Nunavik.
The School Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.
CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:
Class 00-08 as per the working conditions of managers, from $101,612 to $135,480 annually depending on qualifications and experience.
