Nunavik Sivunitsavut: Celebrating another year of culture and community
From its founding vision to its thriving present, Nunavik Sivunitsavut (NS) continues to be more than just a one-year academic program—it’s a movement rooted in empowerment, cultural pride, and collective growth.
As we begin another school year, we’d like to take a moment to feature a few of last year’s highlights.
Key Moments for the 2024–2025 cohort

International Inuit Day
—
Students both participated in and performed at the Inuit Futures Symposium at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), amplifying Inuit perspectives through art, dialogue and storytelling.
Permanent Inuit Exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
—
NS played a key curatorial role by selecting the community piece featured in this landmark exhibition, underscoring the deep connection between tradition, representation, and self-determination.

Treaty Simulation in Inukjuak
—
Hosted by the Qarjuit Youth Council, in collaboration with the Gordon Foundation, this immersive experience allowed the NS 2024–2025 cohort to engage in hands-on policy creation and learn about the intricacies of governance and treaty-making.
Land Claims Agreements Coalition Conference
—
Students both performed in and contributed to this national gathering in Gatineau, marking 50 years of treaty-making in Canada. Their presentation helped celebrate both ancestral resilience and future aspirations.

Local Engagement Across Montreal
—
NS students connected with diverse audiences by performing at the Kativik Regional Government, Tasiutigiit, and Makivvik and by visiting schools from three of Montreal’s school boards. These outreach activities brought Inuit voices into classrooms and hearts across the city.
Celebrating Movement and Identity
—
In the midst of a busy year, students completed a physical education course and participated in Culture Week, rounding out their journey with self-care, exploration and fun.

End-of-Year Greenland Trip
—
The ultimate highlight was the fully funded journey to Greenland. This dream come true was made possible thanks to community donations and heartfelt fundraising. The trip symbolized the culmination of a year rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and courage.
From classrooms to the stage, from museums to the Arctic, Nunavik Sivunitsavut fosters not only academic growth, but also personal transformation. NS empowers young Inuit to speak their truth, champion their communities, and imagine futures beyond conventional boundaries. We can’t wait to see what the 2025–2026 cohort will get up to!
