As we prepare to welcome a second cohort of students at Nunavik Sivunitsavut, we are looking back at some of the best moments from the last school year. On May 18, 2018, Nunavik Sivunitsavut’s first cohort graduated and put on a brilliant show. The students encountered many challenges during the year. While some learned to play the drums, others perfected their sewing skills. It wasn’t the easiest transition, but many will tell you it was well worth it. We had the chance to hear throat‑singing, drumming, and storytelling at the live end‑of‑year performance at Club Atwater.

One by one, the students took the stage to thank each other, their teachers, and their families. The students would often refer to each other as NS sisters; after all, as the first cohort, they had experienced something no one else can relate too. The room was filled with cheers, laughter, and tears of joy. For many students, finishing had never seemed possible; yet there they were, standing proud together. They will continue to grow and inspire each other as they move on to new challenges. Watch this video to relive the celebration. Please join us in congratulating the students on a tremendous first year and welcoming the class of 2018–2019!
