Statement: Incident in Kuujjuaraapik

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is aware of a serious incident involving an employee working at one of our schools, in Kuujjuaraapik, Nunavik.

The employee was removed from the school premises and an investigation will follow.

We recognize that this incident has caused significant concern and distress within the community, among parents and guardians, and among school staff. We understand that community members may have questions regarding the circumstances surrounding this matter and any potential impact on students. We take these concerns seriously and remain committed to providing information to the community as appropriate.

At this time, there is no indication that any student was harmed in relation to this incident. The safety and wellbeing of students remain our highest priority. The school acted quickly to secure a substitute teacher, and classes are continuing with minimal disruption while recruitment of a replacement teacher is underway.

We thank community members for their patience and understanding while the relevant processes move forward. We are unable to comment further at this time.
