Evaluation of students in the youth sector

In October 2020, Kativik Ilisarniliriniq informed Nunavimmiut that the changes announced by Education Minister Roberge concerning the evaluation of students in the youth sector would apply to Nunavik.

Additional changes were announced in January and February 2021, and  will also apply to Nunavik. These changes aim to prioritize learning over evaluation. They take into consideration the educational services disruptions that students and school staff have had to cope with since March 2020.

You will find below the specific terms and conditions that will apply this year to the evaluation of students in the youth sector.

Cancellation of year-end ministerial exams

On January 8, 2021, the Quebec Minister of Education announced the cancellation of year-end ministerial exams in the youth sector, for the current school year. This applies to Nunavik. Therefore, the students’ year-end grades will be based solely on the marks given by teachers for the first and second terms.

Student report cards

As announced in October 2020, there will be only two report cards sent to parents this year.

  • The first report card was issued by February 15, 2021.
  • The second report card will be issued no later than July 10, 2021.
  • The weighting of students’ marks for these two terms will be distributed 35% – 65% in the equation used to compile year-end grades (Minister of Education – News Release, February 10, 2021).
  • All competencies in each subject will have to be evaluated each semester.
