There is still much buzz surrounding the new collective agreements that are about to be implemented. According to Kativik Ilisarniliriniq President Sarah Aloupa this is a “historic moment for the Nunavik education sector.”

Behind the scenes, many people are working hard to ensure everything falls into place Here is a recap of the most recent developments.

At a glance, the key changes stem from an agreement made between KI and the Ministry of Education. Cashable food cargo, a housing subsidy, a retention premium, and outings for all unionized employees in Nunavik are just a few welcome additions. Just how will these changes come into practice?

Following the renewal of the collective agreements, the spokesperson for the Management Negotiating Committee for the Kativik School Board (CPNCSK), Denis Daigle, organized training sessions for all department heads. His objective was to ensure that all managers were aware of any changes or new clauses within the new agreements.

“The trainings have been extremely well received. I was told it was clear, well explained, well presented… all positive!”

This is part of KI’s efforts to ensure all managers are well-informed as to the working conditions of their employees. Specialized training was also given to Human Resources to ensure they had the proper interpretation of the new collective agreements.

At the same time, KI put together a working group for the planning and implementation of all the new benefits. This group is putting the final touches as you are reading this.

You see, these tasks are in line with the new vision of HR. As I mentioned before, we are continuously working to connect with our employees. Especially our Inuit staff! So, great importance is given to working in collaboration with all KI departments.

At the end of the day, we all want this process to be as transparent and accessible as possible. Memos have been issued and will continue circulate as new information and details about these measures becomes available.
